Strength and staying power in a breeding program are the result of proven depth in pedigree and performance. Cutwater's breeding program began with that depth and continues with it.

Our foundation bitch, Ch White Cap Craca CD, AD, was out of one of the all-time top producing PWD bitches, Ch Keel Beleza, CDX. Craca's daughter, Ch Cutwater's The Divine Miss M, won Best of Opposite Sex above 136 other bitches at the 1992 PWDCA National Specialty. One of 5 champions out of "M", her daughter, "Mandy", Am/Can Ch Cutwater Hope and Glory CD RN, MX, MXJ, AD, NAD, WWD, SROM AOM, has continued the tradition of excellence. By age 4, Mandy had earned American and Canadian breed championships, won a 1996 Nat'l. Specialty Award of Merit, and received multiple agility and water work titles. Mandy continued to earn titles throughout her life, earning her Rally Novice title at age 10. Mandy's daughter, Ch Cutwater Rise and Shine CD, MX, AXJ, AD, OAC, NJC, NGC, JWD, CGC, , earned a Jr. Certificate in water work at 6 months of age, and continued to earn titles until she was 9 years old and is the foundation bitch for the very successful Freestyle Portuguese Water Dogs.

Another Craca daughter, Ch Cutwater's Beroe, was the 1989 #1 Bitch in Breed.  Beroe is the dam of Ch Cutwater's I'm BJ of Robel, the 1997 #4 Top Ten sire, a multiple Best of Breed winner and Group Placer.  BJ, an Award of Merit winner at Westminster Kennel Club in 1993,  produced the 1995 Nat'l. Specialty Best of Opposite Sex winner, Ch Bobest Roederer of Robel.  Beroe is also the dam of Ch Cutwater's Isabelle of Robel, who produced the 1996 All Breed Top Ten placer and PWDCA #2 in Breed, Ch Cutwater's High Fidelity.

The Craca daughter, Ch Cutwater's Bonaventure, CD, AD, AWD, SROM, POM was an outstanding bitch who tied for the PWDCA #3 Top Dam in both 1990 and 1991. Many of her offspring have earned breed championships and working titles.

Ch Cutwater's Carly Hamilton, another Craca daughter, produced Ch Cutwater's Knight Errant, CDX, AX, WWD, ADCH, one of the country's top agility dogs. Ch Cutwater's Kit Kat, also out of Carly, has produced 4 dogs who have earned water work titles.

Ch Cutwater Poetic Justice won the 2000 PWDCA Nat'l. Specialty Sweepstakes, from her five puppies, three are Champions and her line continues with beautiful dogs.

Cutwater regularly competes and place in the classes at the National Specialties; in 2006 placements were won in Veteran Bitches 7-9 and 11 and over, in the Sweepstakes, Futurity, Working Dog Class and Bred By Exhibitor. We also and titled in Rally Advanced and competed in agility and water. We have placed in the TOP TEN PWDCA awards annually for 8 out of the last ten years.

We have also had several winners at Nutmeg Portuguese Water Dog Club's Specialty, held annual in Fairfield County in June. In 1999 we were awarded Winners Dog and also Winners Bitch.

Our current working dogs are "Sasha" Ch Cutwater Magnetic Moment CDX RA MX AXJ BROM, and "Bessie" Ch Cutwater Love Me Do RA AX OAJ WWD SROM AOM.  Love Me Do was awarded her AOM at the 2002 Nat'l Specialty, came 2nd in the Working Dog Class, earned her CD in 2006, and finished her Rally Advanced title at the 2006 Nat'l Specialty. She has multiple breed Champion offspring. Bessie is now working on her Courier Water title and more advanced obedience and rally titles. Sasha is now 10 years old, nearing retirement, but is still competing in agility and training for her Rally Excellent title. Sasha died suddenly in January 2007, diagnosed with cancer of the lung. She is very much missed...............

These examples of winning performances, spanning multiple generations, are proof that the CUTWATER breeding program is consistent and predictable.  This proven consistency is your guarantee that a CUTWATER-bred dog is healthy, possesses the correct breed characteristics, is of sound temperament, and is a capable and willing worker.

"What a feminine bitch, yet so sound and well-balanced. her head was extremely well-proportioned with very dark eyes placed well; her expression was attentive and happy. She had a black, curly coat of correct texture and deep dolor, an excellent front, extremely sound rear, good hocks, excellent topline and tail carriage. Her movement was well-balanced and her performance excellent at all times. "
